The story of Monika began in Patra, where σhe became involved with the independent scene in the city. She began writing songs and playing guitar, accordion, piano, saxophone, etc., initially participating in the group of her brother, the Serpentine, and at times friendly groups of the city.

Very soon she began to play her own songs and the reputation of her talent circulated in Patras and in Athens, where through sporadic appearances, she built the image of a girl who, at first post-teenage years, sang with the power of a seasoned performer and who wrote songs unheard before at a similar level.

Her mathematics studies in Athens have no bearing on the music she produces.

Her talent is natural and instinctive, and the apparent correlation "math - music" is totally balanced and natural. Her influences are according to her, "indie rock bands in the 90's, in their melodic moments though" .

The single «Over The Hill», introduced Monika, at 23, to the wider Greek audience, preceding her first album «Avatar» released by Archangel Music.

The album was recorded in Athens, mixed in England by Ian Caple - producer of the Tindersticks and Jan Tiersen-, had it’s final mastering in New York at Sterling Studios and it was released in May 2008 in the Greek market. The «Avatar» is the album that essentially defines the term "English-speaking female songwriter - singer.

Monika writes songs with a "clean" feeling and she sings them with a strong, crisp voice without unnecessary ornaments.
Before the release of «Avatar» Monika appeared live in the Celebration of Earth Day and she continued with participations with Calexico - who also appeared on her album- and concerts with Antony & the Johnsons and participations in various festivals.

Immediately after the release of the album, she began her personal concerts in Athens and Thessaloniki, together with her six piece band composed of Aris Zervas cello, Nikos Agloupas bass, drums Kriton Belonias, Sotiris Pepelas the trumpet, Manos Paterakis in guitar and violin Stamatela Spinoula.

In Ikaria, Monika on piano, guitar and accordion, will perform songs of "Avatar", "Exit", the successor of "Avatar", remixes, songs by Leonard Cohen and Carly Simon, Sparkle horse and Konstantinos Beta- in  a program that resembles nothing we have heard recently or earlier in the Greek scene. On stage she will be accompanied by her 11-member band in an ambient journey that connects modern with the timeless and a rich sense of melody in Greek sophisticated, global pop.
